This was done during a family holiday based in Bassenthwaite. It is one of the walks that I did early morning so I could be back before my family arose from their slumber.
Wainwright described Binsey as "like a dunce set apart from the class." It is many years since I last heard the word "dunce". "Dunce" is not considered politically correct today ad is now, along with numbskull, viewed as an outdated insult.
I set off around 0700 and was back at the lodge before my wife and son had woken up. Another man set off at around the same time as myself. He got off to ahead start wile I was changing my footwear etc. I met up with him again at the top. I asked him to take my photograph on my DSLR. I should have checked the photographs afterwards - he had either pressed the wrong button or not pressed the shutter release far enough. Many people focus the camera without pressing the button further to take the photograph!
He was great company on the way down, which must have only been 15-20 minutes. No summit photograph though!

Binsey certainly does not deserve the insult that Wainwright gave it! It is a very pleasant hill, whether it is part of an early morning run, ascended while walking the dog or a quick hill before completing one's duties as a husband and father.
