This walk was done on the Saturday of the Walkhighlands Summer meet. While others headed for the Grey Corries, Cruach Innse or the Easains, I decided on a lesser challenge. I am very pleased with my choice in that it included a visit to the beautiful and interesting graveyard of Cille Choiril and the sun came out on the summit. I was able to linger and enjoy the views of mostly higher hills.
The route heads up directly from the church carpark, over a small hillock to a gate. The route was up was largely pathless other than sheep paths. Higher up I joined some tyre tracks that led towards the summit.
The weather was mostly fair but there was some light rain as can be seen in the first summit selfie, but then the rain cleared and the sun came out. I experimented with selfies from different angles and settings and ate a snack of dry roasted peanuts. I spent at least twenty minutes at the top; perhaps half an hour before making my way down. I had been suffering from a "dodgy knee" for some weeks but it seemed to be stronger with each day on the hill.
I took a slightly different route back to avoid steeper ground to swing round to a different gate where there were a variety of steers, including belted Galloways and another animal which clearly had some highland in it. The belted Galloways seemed very curious about me and walked towards me. I was careful not to turn my back on them as I bent over to remove my camera from my backpack.
While this is not a well-celebrated hill, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. There is lots of interest at the start, The summit sports a fine trig point and offers superb views.
The hill behind the steer is the way up to Cnap Cruinn which is another Graham done the previous day from the same starting point.
